Tourism as an economic factor in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will develop a new state tourism concept in 2016. The most crucial goal of the first phase of the development was to measure the economic importance of the tourism industry in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

DIW Econ was commissioned to calculate the economic importance of the tourism industry in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in cooperation with the German Institute for Economic Research in Tourism (dwif).

Consideration of the “doctor’s salary” when adjusting the orientation value

The level of remuneration for medical services is redefined annually. The central control variable is the so-called orientation value, which determines the price level of outpatient treatment and is renegotiated annually by the GKV-Spitzenverband and Kassenärztliche Bundesvereinigung (KBV).

DIW Econ has developed a procedure for adjusting the reference value on behalf of the central association of statutory health insurance funds. It enables the transparent calculation of the scope for distribution and shows which normative trade-offs have to be made.

The economic importance of advertising

DIW Econ was commissioned by the Zentralverband der deutschen Werbewirtschaft ZAW e.V. (Central Association of the German Advertising Industry) and the Gesamtverband Kommunikationsagenturen GWA e.V. (General Association of Communications Agencies) to investigate the economic significance of advertising. By providing information, advertising has an economic significance that goes beyond its role as a communication tool for companies. The present study shows this based on a comprehensive empirical analysis of advertising and its effects on market activity in Germany.
