In its coalition agreement, the German government established the goal of creating a fair framework conditions for e-lending in public libraries. The study now presented by DIW Econ aims to provide a comprehensive empirical basis for this.

Online survey on the situation of the local press in Germany
The Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM) has commissioned DIW Econ GmbH to study the current situation of the local German press.
The study aims to create a comprehensive picture of the local German press and, in particular, to analyze the challenges and opportunities arising from increasing digitization. In addition, the study will evaluate the extent to which current developments are endangering the diversity of the press and opinions and whether a need for state support can be derived from this. Finally, the study will examine which government funding measures could effectively support the local German press and thus also press and opinion diversity.
Feasibility Study on Promoting Publishing Diversity in the Book Market in Germany
Against the background of a drastically changing market environment in the German publishing industry, DIW Econ GmbH has prepared a feasibility study on governmental support measures for the German book publishing industry on behalf of the Federal Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM).
The study reveals that publishing diversity in the German book market is under threat. In particular, small and independent publishers are threatened by current events and developments in the publishing industry.
Music Industry in Germany 2020
In 2020, DIW Econ was commissioned by the relevant music industry associations and the two most important collecting societies to conduct a new edition of the study “Music Industry in Germany”, which quantifies the importance of the industry comprehensively and in all its sub-sectors. The study was funded by the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and by the Initiative Musik gemeinnützige Projektgesellschaft mbH with project funds from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.
