Further development of the Berlin energy and climate protection program for the implementation period 2022 to 2026 – meinBerlin

The amendment to the Berlin Climate Protection and Energy Transition Act (EWG Bln) sets binding climate targets for Berlin: Reduction of CO2 emissions by at least 70 per cent by 2030 and by at least 90 per cent by 2040 compared to the reference year 1990, as well as the achievement of climate neutrality by 2045 at the latest.

The central instrument for achieving Berlin’s climate targets is the Berlin Energy and Climate Protection Program (BEK 2030). In accordance with the Berlin Climate Protection and Energy Transition Act requirements, the BEK is to be further developed on a regular basis. In addition, the draft must be submitted to the Berlin House of Representatives one year after it is constituted.

The project consortium consisting of Berliner Energieagentur GmbH, DIW Econ GmbH and Wuppertal Institut für Klima, Umwelt, Energie GmbH was commissioned to further develop the BEK for the implementation period 2022 to 2026, taking into account new climate targets, scientific findings and recommendations for action.
