Professor Stefan Liebig has held the professorship for Empirical Social Structure Analysis and Survey Methodology at the Institute of Sociology at the FU Berlin since 2022. From 2018 to 2022, Stefan Liebig was Director of the Socio-Economic Panel and a member of the DIW Berlin Executive Board since January 2018. The Socio-Economic Panel is a longitudinal panel dataset of the population in Germany and one of the largest of its kind in Europe. He is an internationally recognised expert on survey methodology and specialised on the evaluation of social inequities. His research has been published in journals such as Survey Research Methods or Journal of Survey Statistics and Methodology.

He is an appointed member of the German Data Forum (RatSWD) and Deputy Chair of the German Council for Scientific Information Infrastructures (RfII), appointed by the Joint Science Conference (GWK). He previously held professorships at the Universities of Bielefeld, Duisburg-Essen, and Trier. He holds a PhD in sociology from the Humboldt-University Berlin and a habilitation from the University of Munich.
