Dr Maria Polugodina

Dr Maria Polugodina is a manager at DIW Econ and a head of the Energy and Climate Policy Practice. She specialises in the techno-economic nexus of energy economics, industrial expertise and climate policy, in combination with quantitative economic modelling at national and regional levels. She has worked on numerous projects related to the European Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), as well as on projects concerning national and regional low-emission strategies (LEDS).

Dr Polugodina is an expert in input-output modelling, energy modelling, and the use of system dynamics as a problem-driven and context-dependent modelling approach.

Dr Polugodina has experience in implementing projects for the European Commission, international development organisations, public institutions, companies, and associations.

Prior to joining DIW Econ, she was a research fellow at the Institute for East European Studies at Freie Universität Berlin, where she earned her PhD in Economics. She also studied economics at Humboldt University in Berlin and the Higher School of Economics in Moscow.
