The economic importance of ARD

The study provides an economic rationale for public funding and provision of broadcasting content in a converging media world. Furthermore, it discusses in which institutional structures public service broadcasting content should be provided and which experiences and findings resulting from the comparison of public service financing in an international context.

The study carried out various analyses, including an analysis of media markets and the role of public service broadcasters. Furthermore, an economic analysis of market failures in media markets and an economic assessment of the need for publicly funded broadcasters were carried out. The study also included international comparisons of the costs associated with public service broadcasting and country case studies on the broadcasting market.
