Berlin-Adlershof location: powerful impetus for the city
DIW Weekly Report 4/2008, pp. 41-46
Germany’s largest technology and science cluster has been created in the Berlin-Adlershof development area with around 750 companies and over 12,500 employees. This is generating noticeable economic impulses for the city. The economic effects can be quantified for 2006 as an additional gross value added of one billion euros and around 21,000 jobs. This was offset by public funding of 78.8 million euros in 2006, of which 54 million euros went to the scientific institutes. The subsidies granted to the companies in the Science and Technology Park amount to 20.5 million euros, which is only five percent of the turnover. The steadily increasing number of companies in the Science and Technology Park with a downward trend in subsidies leads us to expect that the high dynamics in the Adlershof development area will continue.
