Tourism as an economic factor in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will develop a new state tourism concept in 2016. The most crucial goal of the first phase of the development was to measure the economic importance of the tourism industry in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
DIW Econ was commissioned to calculate the economic importance of the tourism industry in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in cooperation with the German Institute for Economic Research in Tourism (dwif).
The methodology is based on the international definitions of the tourism industry and the German Tourism Satellite Account. The aim was to record the tourism industry’s contribution to the overall economic performance and employment in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern for the first time.
