The economy of beverage packaging
The expert discussion on beverage packaging regularly neglects the economic context and focuses instead on ecological issues.
On behalf of the BGVZ (Bund Getränkeverpackungen der Zukunft GbR), DIW Econ has for the first time analysed the economic relationships.
The study shows that the disposable PET bottle is the big winner among beverage packaging and analyses the reasons for this development. Special attention is paid to the ambivalent balance of the deposit on non-refillable bottles: Although it has partially missed its political targets, it provided the impetus for a functioning recycling system.PDF Download of this publication
