Prof Dr Jürgen Schupp

Prof Dr Jürgen Schupp is Senior Research Associate at DIW Econ, Director of the research-based infrastructure facility “Socio-Economic Panel” (SOEP) at DIW Berlin, Professor of Empirical Social Research at the Free University of Berlin and member of the faculty of the Berlin Graduate School of Social Sciences at the Humboldt University of Berlin. Prof Schupp is a renowned expert on social structure analyses, social indicators, educational acquisition and issues of social inequality. He has more than 20 years of experience in the planning, preparation and further development of the longitudinal study SOEP – the most extensive ongoing German repeat survey of private households and individuals. The SOEP is one of the most important empirical bases for economic and social policy advice in Germany. Prof Dr Schupp studied at the universities of Mainz, and Frankfurt am Main, received his doctorate at the Ruhr University Bochum and has been teaching as a professor at the Free University Berlin since 1996.
