Measuring the Sustainability of Tourism in Germany – Development of a Tourism Sustainability Satellite Account

On behalf of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) and the German Environment Agency (UBA), the consortium consisting of DIW Econ, adelphi, dwif-Tourismusberatung, BTE Tourismus- und Regionalberatung as well as Prof Dr Wolfgang Strasdas and his team from the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development investigated the question of how tourism in Germany can be subjected to a systematic evaluation with regard to its sustainable development.

The result is a first feasibility study for a Tourism Sustainability Satellite Account (TSSA).

Improving the evidence base on transfer of business in Europe

Successful business transfers ensure continuity of production and business relations, preserve employment, and uphold the value of assets. However, data on business transfers are generally fragmented, often outdated, and not comparable across the EU Member States. Therefore, this study by DIW Econ on behalf of the Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises of the European Commission seeks to improve the evidence base on business transfers in the EU Member States.

Music Industry in Germany 2020

In 2020, DIW Econ was commissioned by the relevant music industry associations and the two most important collecting societies to conduct a new edition of the study “Music Industry in Germany”, which quantifies the importance of the industry comprehensively and in all its sub-sectors. The study was funded by the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and by the Initiative Musik gemeinnützige Projektgesellschaft mbH with project funds from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.

Assessment of the advantages and disadvantages of hydrogen imports compared to domestic production

On behalf of the German Renewable Energy Federation (BEE) and the State Association of Renewable Energies NRW (LEE NRW), DIW Econ, together with the Wuppertal Institute, has analysed the domestic production of green hydrogen from renewable energies in comparison to the import of hydrogen up to the year 2050.

Tourism Satellite Account (TSA) – a brief explanation

DIW Econ was responsible for calculating the Tourism Satellite Accounts for Germany and the federal states of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Hamburg, Lower Saxony, Brandenburg, North Rhine-Westphalia and Schleswig-Holstein in cooperation with project partners such as the German Institute for Tourism Research (DI Tourismusforschung).
