The Stiftung Zukunft des Kohlenstoffsmarktes, a charitable foundation based in Frankfurt am Main and Berlin, aims to support innovative carbon market mechanisms in developing countries. The foundation was created in 2011 within the framework of the Internationalen Klimaschutzinitiative (International Climate Protection Initiative, IKI) of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMU). One of the foundation’s primary goals is to tap into emission ranges for the market mechanisms of climate protection that have yet to be reached. In addition, the foundation aims to increase developing countries’ participation in emissions trading by financing startups and acting as advisors in the development of low-carbon economies.
