Dr Hans-Joachim Ziesing is Senior Research Associate at DIW Econ and an internationally recognised expert on energy and climate protection. He worked at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin) from 1969 to 2006, where he headed the department “Energy, Transport, Environment” for many years. In addition to the German government, he also advises the governments of other countries on climate policy. His main topics are energy-economic analyses, forecasts and scenarios, the economics of energy systems, in particular of renewable energies and combined heat and power systems, energy efficiency indicators, environmental impacts of energy strategies, climate protection policy, sustainable development and, above all, emissions trading (Germany’s National Allocation Plan and the development of emissions trading in the post-Kyoto period). He received his doctorate at the TU Berlin on the economic evaluation of renewable energies. Dr Ziesing is a member of the commission appointed by the German government for the monitoring process “Energy of the Future”.
