The economic importance of onshore wind energy in Schleswig-Holstein

DIW Econ was commissioned by the Schleswig-Holstein Regional Association of the German Wind Energy Association to investigate the economic significance of onshore wind energy in Schleswig-Holstein.

This study analyses, on the one hand, the investments in new wind energy plants and on the other hand, the revenues and costs arising from the operation and maintenance of existing wind energy plants. It will thus determine the effects of the wind energy sector on regional value-added, employment and tax revenues in Schleswig-Holstein. The overall effect of the three indicators can be divided into direct, indirect and induced effects.

Tourism as an economic factor in NRW

DIW Econ has for the second time comprehensively examined the importance of the tourism industry in North Rhine-Westphalia based on internationally comparable calculation standards in cooperation with the Institute for Management and Tourism (IMT) at the West Coast University of Applied Sciences and dwif-Consulting.

The central results confirm the growing importance of the tourism industry for NRW. Compared to the study published in 2013, tourism consumption in 2017 showed a nominal growth of 11.6 per cent.

Tourism as an economic factor in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will develop a new state tourism concept in 2016. The most crucial goal of the first phase of the development was to measure the economic importance of the tourism industry in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

DIW Econ was commissioned to calculate the economic importance of the tourism industry in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in cooperation with the German Institute for Economic Research in Tourism (dwif).

The gypsum industry as an economic factor in the southern Harz region

DIW Econ has examined the economic significance of the gypsum industry in the southern Harz region. The study, commissioned by the Bundesverband der Gipsindustrie e.V. (Federal Association of the Gypsum Industry), concludes that the three locations of the companies CASEA GmbH (Ellrich), Knauf Deutsche Gipswerke KG (Rottleberode) and Saint-Gobain Formula GmbH (Walkenried) provided a gross value added of more than 92 million euros as well as more than 1,300 jobs in the Southern Harz region in 2014.
